Winslow Spreading the Word on Positive Mental Health

The Road to Positive Mental Health

Construction can be a challenging industry, with long hours, physical demands, and often working in remote or isolated environments which can have a negative impact on a worker’s wellbeing.

That’s why Winslow is committed to creating a culture where mental health is supported just as strongly as physical health.

The face of mental health at Winslow is Big Blue, a 36-tonne excavator painted blue to encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out and seek support from workmates, family and friends.

It’s been spreading the word on mental health awareness across Winslow projects since 2018.

Winslow Mental Health Initiatives

In 2024, Winslow released The Road To Positive Mental Health – Building Strong Connections, a document that highlights its dedication to support its employees.

It outlines the approach and ongoing initiatives Winslow has in place to encourage positive mental health for employees and their families.

Winslow holds its own Mental Health Month initiative in September, which included World Suicide Prevention Day and RUOK? Day, and encourages everyone to improve their wellbeing through physical exercise opportunities.

Winslow’s commitment to supporting its people is emphasised by employees who are regularly trained as Mental Health First Aiders, who are trained to offer help and support to colleagues and to promote mental health awareness.

They are easily identifiable on site with their TradeMutt shirts and encourage colleagues to regularly ‘Chat & and Check-In’ with each other.

The Road to Positive Mental Health

Winslow is a leader in mental health support in civil construction, and we continue to be committed to raising the awareness and understanding of the benefits of positive mental health through our integrated inhouse employee engagement initiatives.

We have worked hard at creating a culture where our employees feel respected, valued and supported and have many avenues to reach out, if needed.

We developed our bespoke ‘Chat & Check-In’ initiative as an ongoing message to look out for each other regularly or with one of our qualified mental health champions.

Sometimes it is easier to talk to an understanding peer about stressful or traumatic experiences than to a professional and this can be an invaluable first step to seeking expert psychological help at a later stage if needed.

We operate in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.
