Melbourne Regional Landfill is Victoria’s largest landfill and is a highly engineered and regulated facility.
As part of the landfill southern expansion, Winslow Infrastructure constructed a leachate pond, involving bulk excavation, construction of engineered subgrade fill, installation of geosynthetics and an aggregate ballast layer.
Key Achievements
Productivity: The team successfully navigated through challenging wet weather conditions, finishing lining works during winter and completed the project three weeks ahead of program.
Environmental: The team delivered the project to EPA’s stringent Best Practice Environmental Management standards, helping the client obtain the required licences to operate the leachate pond.
Stakeholder management: Being the largest landfill site in the southern hemisphere, the team managed high volumes of traffic in and around the area and operated to strict environmental standards and processes to minimise the impacts on the interfacing operational facility as well as the surrounding community.
